Islamic Holy Days Flashcards – Special Days and the 12 Islamic Months
The Islamic year is full of special days, and children remember them best when they can see them, name them and talk about them as they arrive. This bright, printable set covers 12 holy days and all 12 Islamic months, each on a large card with a matching picture, the Arabic name and a short explanation in simple words. The cards are clear enough to hold up in front of a class and friendly enough for a child to read alone.
What is on every card
- The card number
- The name in English
- What the name means, or the month number
- A colourful picture that matches the card
- The Arabic name with tashkeel
- A simple explanation written for children
The 12 holy day cards
Eid Al-Fitr, Eid Al-Adha, Hajj, Jumu'ah, Laylat Al-Qadr, Islamic New Year, Day of Arafah, Day of Ashura, Mawlid Al-Nabi, Isra' and Mi'raj, Mid-Sha'ban and Jumu'atul-Wida.
The 8 month cards
All 12 months of the Islamic calendar, from Muharram to Dhul-Hijjah. The first eight months are paired on four cards, and Ramadan, Shawwal, Dhul-Qi'dah and Dhul-Hijjah each have a card of their own.
For school and classroom teachers
There is no preparation beyond printing and cutting. Bring out each card as its day or month arrives and put it on the board, so the class always knows where they are in the Islamic year. Use the cards to start a discussion, for a quick quiz, or to build a year-round wall display. They also work well in RE lessons and assemblies when introducing Islamic festivals.
For madrasah and Islamic studies teachers
The set gives you a ready-made unit on the Islamic calendar. Teach one card per lesson, practise reading the Arabic names with tashkeel, and ask children to put the month cards in order from 1 to 12. The short explanations suit mixed ages and reading levels.
For homeschooling families and parents
Keep the set by the calendar at home and bring out the right card when a new month begins or a special day is near. Read it together, talk about what the family will do, and let your child tick it off on the chart.
For children
Each card says what the day or month is and why it matters, in words children understand. They can read the cards on their own, test each other, or sort the months into order.
Two bonus cards
- My Learning Chart: all 20 cards listed with a tick box beside each, to track progress

Good to know
