Ramadan 2027 Preparation Checklist: Get Ready in 8 Weeks

Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin on or around Monday 8 February 2027, depending on the sighting of the moon. The best Ramadans are the ones we prepare for. The Prophet ﷺ would fast much of Sha'ban, the month before (Sahih al-Bukhari 1969 and Sahih Muslim 1156). Use this checklist to start early.

"O you who have believed, fasting has been prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become righteous." (Quran 2:183)

8 weeks before: set your intentions

• Write down three goals for Ramadan, for example: finish the Quran, pray every Taraweeh, give charity every day.
• Make up any missed fasts from last Ramadan.
• Start a small daily habit now, such as 5 pages of Quran after Fajr, so it is easy to grow in Ramadan.

6 weeks before: plan your Quran reading

Ramadan is the month of the Quran: "The month of Ramadan in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance for the people" (Quran 2:185). To finish the whole Quran in Ramadan:

Goal	Daily reading (Madinah Mushaf, 604 pages)
Finish once in 30 days	1 juz, about 20 pages a day: 4 pages after each prayer
Finish once in 29 days	About 21 pages a day
Finish twice	2 juz, about 40 pages a day
Read with meaning	Half a juz a day with a translation

• Download your Quran now and choose the edition you read most comfortably.
• Put a Quran PDF on your phone so you can read during your commute or lunch break.

4 weeks before: prepare the children

• Explain why we fast, and let older children try a few half-day fasts.
• Make a Ramadan calendar together and plan a small good deed for each day.
• Prepare activities: wordsearches, colouring and Arabic worksheets keep children busy and learning during long fasting afternoons.
• Teach them a short dua to say when breaking the fast.

3 weeks before: Zakat and charity

• Many people pay their annual Zakat in Ramadan for the extra reward. Calculate it now, using our Zakat guide.
• Set up a small daily donation for the 30 days, so you never miss a day of charity.
• Remember Zakat al-Fitr is paid for each family member before the Eid prayer.

2 weeks before: home and health

• Plan simple, healthy suhoor and iftar meals, and stock up on dates.
• Gradually cut down on caffeine to avoid headaches in the first days.
• Create a quiet prayer corner with a prayer mat and a copy of the Quran.
• Anyone with a medical condition should speak to their doctor before fasting.

1 week before: final preparations

• Check your local mosque's timetable and Taraweeh times.
• Ask forgiveness from family and friends and start the month with a clean heart.
• Buy Eid gifts early, so the last ten nights are free for worship.

The last ten nights and Laylatul Qadr

لَيْلَةُ ٱلْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌۭ مِّنْ أَلْفِ شَهْرٍۢ

"The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months." (Quran 97:3)

Seek Laylatul Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten (Sahih al-Bukhari 2017). Aisha asked the Prophet ﷺ what to say if she found it, and he taught her (Sunan Ibn Majah 3850):

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni.
"O Allah, You are the Pardoner and You love to pardon, so pardon me."
